1. The first patent for a “typewriter-type-machine” was granted in Britain. On January 7, 1714, The water works engineer Henry Mill was granted Patent Number for a “Machine for Transcribing Letters” by Queen Anne in Britain.
2. In 1987, The Leaning Tower of Pisa became a UNESCO World Heritage site. By 1990, however, engineers determined that the increasing tilt was a danger to visitors and on 7th January in 1990 the Leaning Tower of Pisa was closed to the public. Engineers removed the bells from the tower to decrease the weight and stress on the building
3. First American Commercial Bank, Bank of North America opened. in Philadelphia. on 7th January in 1782.
4. American Congress sets 7th January in 1789 as the date by which states are required to choose electors for the country’s first-ever presidential election. A month later, on February 4, George Washington was elected president by state electors unanimously and sworn into office on April 30, 1789.
5. Lala Lajpat Rai was an Indian Independence activist. He played a pivotal role in Independence movement. He was popularly known as Punjab Kesri. He and and his colleague Pandit Santanam were sentenced to 18 months for treason.on 7th January in 1922.
6. On January 7th, 1927, men in New York and London staged the first official telephone call across the Atlantic Ocean, when W. S. Gifford, president of the American Telephone & Telegraph Company, calls Sir Evelyn P. Murray, secretary of the General Post Office of Great Britain, on the new commercial circuit. –

The Indian National Science Academy (INSA) was established in Calcutta on 7th January in 1935 with the object of promoting science in India and harnessing scientific knowledge for the cause of humanity and national welfare. The foundation of the Academy, earlier known as the National Institute of Sciences of India (NISI).
8. After setting up a Free India Centre in Berlin, Bose started Azad Hind Radio as part of Germany’s radio service, which first aired on 7th January in 1942. A widespread German-funded operation, the programmes were meant to show solidarity with Indians living abroad, as well as those still living in the subcontinent.

10. Today is birthday of Shantha Sinha born on 7th January 1950 is an Indian anti-child labour activist. She is the founder of Mamidipudi Venkatarangaiya Foundation, popularly known as MV Foundation and is a professor in the Department of Political science in Hyderabad Central University. She headed the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights for two consecutive terms (three years each); The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) was set up in March 2007. Sinha was its first chairperson. She was awarded the civilian honour of Padma Shri by the Government of India in 1998.
